B.SUBJECT DESCRIPTION

 

This course is conducted by the Discipline of Medical Laboratory Science and has a vocational focus. It prepares the students for a future career in the field of medical and veterinary diagnostic and research Medical Parasitology.

 

Course Name:              2:24812 MEDICAL PARASITOLOGY

It aims to: 

1.  Demonstrate the understanding of the blood and intestinal parasites classification.

2.  Demonstrate the understanding of the life cycle of blood and intestinal parasites.

3.  To enable the students to perform some of the routine parasitological tests.

4.  To enable the students to interpret the results.

5.  To enable the students to understand the principles and limitation of these tests.

6.  Provide detail understanding of the sciences of parasitology and the relationship of

     parasitological findings in health and disease.

7.  Provide detail understanding of developing confidence in their own reporting skills.

 

OBJECTIVES

 

Specific objective for topics are given to guide students to study prior to test and examination.

ü  NEMATODA, Filarial worms and other tissue nematodes

  • OVERVIEW OF MEDICAL ENTOMOLOGY

ü  Insects and arachnids

 



This course is conducted by the Discipline of Medical Laboratory Science and has a vocational focus. It prepares the students for a future carrier in the field of medical and also veterinary diagnostic, research and microbiology. It aims to introduce up to date, basic immunology concepts at a level suitable for students with little prior exposure to immunology.

Aims:

  1. Name the cells of the immune system and their structural functions

  2. Explain characteristics of innate and adaptive immunity

  3.  Explain how the immune system causes and prevents human diseases

  4. Apply the knowledge and skills in performing basic & specific Laboratory techniques in relation to diagnostic Immunology

  5. Demonstrate skills in problem solving, and hence implement holistic solutions

  6. Apply skills in communicating information using a variety of resources and hence increase critical appraisal of literature
