This course is conducted by the Discipline of Medical Laboratory Science and has a vocational focus. It prepares the students for a future carrier in the field of medical and also veterinary diagnostic, research and microbiology. It aims to introduce up to date, basic immunology concepts at a level suitable for students with little prior exposure to immunology.
Aims:
Name the cells of the immune system and their structural functions
Explain characteristics of innate and adaptive immunity
Explain how the immune system causes and prevents human diseases
Apply the knowledge and skills in performing basic & specific Laboratory techniques in relation to diagnostic Immunology
Demonstrate skills in problem solving, and hence implement holistic solutions
Apply skills in communicating information using a variety of resources and hence increase critical appraisal of literature
